Chez P. Dufard, Libraire, [1818-1822]. Print. Item #206645
Matted to 6 by 8 inches. Stipple engraving. highlighted with handcoloring. The short-styled field rose is native to the British Isles. *** This original engraving is from the octavo edition of Redoute's classic work, Les roses. Les roses, based on the flowers in Malmaison, the estate of Josephine Bonaparte, Napoleon's first wife, first appeared in a large folio edition, mostly purchased by royalty and the superrich. The smaller octavo edition, from which this print comes, was published between 1818 and 1822. A tiny bit of foxing to the paper, else a bright copy of this 200-year-old print.
