Single folded sheet of blue paper, 7.75 x 12.5 inches, some discoloration along fold and edges, else very good. 'Preemtion (sic) Notice, United States of America, I, John R. Marshall, of San Joaquin County...has on the 4th day July, A.D., 1852, settled and improved the following described tract of land containing 160 acres of land and Being the South East Quarter of Section Thirty Six in Township Number One North Range Seven (7) E. ...(in another hand) being in the district of lands known as the upper district and subject to sale at Benecia which land has not yet been offered at public sale and is thus rendered subject to private entry...and I do hereby declare my intention to claim said land...Given under my hand and seal this the twenty-eighth day of February A.D. 1854 (signed) John R. Marshall, in presence of (signed) Henry C. Lee.'.
