Autograph letter signed
1855. Ephemera. Item #286935
Single sheet folded, 5 x 8 inches when folded, written first leaf only. William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878) was a poet and long-time editor of the New York Evening Post. Autograph letter signed, dated New York December 18th, 1855: 'Dear Sir, The poems of Mr. Duganne (Augustine J. H. Duganne) which you were so obliging as to forward to my address reached me safely, and would have been noticed by this time but for a thousand matters of business and politics claiming my attention. An editor of a daily paper is not the master of his time to that degree that he can at any time find a quiet hour for reading poetry. I have been able to look at the book but slightly, yet I shall not forget it. I am ___respectfully yours, W.C. Bryant. Jas. Serley Jr., Esq.' Letter previously folded for mailing.
