Single sheet, 9.5 x 10.25 inches. John P. Jermain was the editor of the Albany Literary Gazette in 1831. Sumner Lincoln Fairfield (1803-1844) was a poet and the founder of the North American Quarterly. Autograph letter signed. Dated Albany September 24, 1831. Addressed 'My Dear Sir'. Letter discusses the publication in two parts of a poem submitted to Jermain by Fairfield, a book by Fairfield for publication, and requests he submit something for his 'prize' offered of $100. Previously folded for mailing with address and seal on outside of folded letter. Sent from steamboat. Good content. About 200 words.
