3-page typed announcement re the life of Rossell G. O'Brien and the intention to honor him by the American Legion, Post 5, Oakland, California, on Memorial Day, 1967, at Mountain View Cemetery, where he is interred. O'Brien, who served as Lieutenant in the Civil War, came to Washington State in 1870, and was the mayor of Olympia in 1891. He rose to the rank of general in the Washington National Guard and is called the 'Father of the National Guard' in Washington. He is credited with 'leading the people of the United States, in a patriotic duty to rise and stand,. with head uncovered, in solemn and reverent observance, when the National anthem is played,' for which role he is being honored. First edition (first printing). Very good typed copy. Pages with wrinkles and folds. With photo negative 4 x 5 inches, of O'Brien as a young man in uniform.
