1. Printed note, in German, translated: 'The love, appreciation and benevolence I received around my sixtieth birthday gives me the happy feeling that I haven't lived and worked in vain. My heartfelt thanks are due to all who thought of me kindly. I want to prove it by the fact that I can keep going without getting tired as long as I don't feel like I'm sixty years old.' Card previously folded for mailing. 2. B/W photograph signed by Sudermann at bottom in ink. Photograph, 3.5 x 5.4 inches. Card is holograph addressed and signed, not in Sudermann's hand, to Robert Robitschek. Hermann Sudermann (1857-1928) was a popular German playwright and novelist.
