Doctor Dolittle Final Screenplay

Apjac Productions, 1967. Trade Paperback. Item #207220
ISBN: 281AIB1041128

[ii] 163 leaves, printed rectos (front side) only. The final script, dated July 5, 1967. The live-action, animal-filled musical starred Rex Harrison and Samantha Eggar and was directed by Richard Fleischer. Bricusse, who also wrote the songs, won the Academy Award for Best Song (in a year where Mrs. Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel wasn't even nominated). Doctor Dolittle also won the Oscar for Best Special Effects. *** The film was something of a financial disaster, going 300% over budget, but in your cataloguer's opinion, the movie has its charms. He well remembers watching it many times in television re-runs in the 1970s. *** The film was based on the character John Dolittle, a physician who could talk with animals, featured in a series of books first published in 1920. A fine copy, bound with two brad brads, in studio covers printed with an image of the doctor and a Pushmi-pullyu. [JSP01].
