The Field-Turner feud renowned in the annals of California history. Turner a judge that had Field, an attorney, disbarred; Field ultimatley got his revenge by, on election to the California Assembly, arranging Turner's banishment, via judicial reorganization, to a remote 'region in the northern part of the state.' A considerably expanded edition over that of the first edition of 1853. Cowan, p. 647; Rocq 15661 Inscribed by Turner on front pastedown: 'Presented to Frank A. Weck by W. R. Turner'. Weck's signature on front free endpaper. Weck was a prominent resident of Humboldt County, California. A very good copy in original brown cloth covers with gilt lettering on front cover. Covers are worn with boards showing at corners. Hinges are cracked and binding is loose. Second facsimile letter, page 44, is missing. Foxing, especially pp. 51-60. Scarce with signature.
