21 autograph letters on half-sheets. Charles Moore came to California in 1879. He was a son of Alanson (Alison) S. Moore [1817-1897] and Laura Jane Nielson Moore [1825-1903. Alanson went to California in 1850 via Nicaraugua and worked as a yard master for Dorsey & Co., lumber dealers in San Francisco. He returned to Ryegate, Vermont, and became a successful farmer with large land holdings. All on half-sheets, Western Hotel, Sacramento, 1892-96, with three envelopes. A total of 98 pages @ ca. 75 words/page = ca. 7500 words. Early letter: 'Sept. 16, 1892: 'times are very dull here at present but I could have a show on a work train at Readding (sic) Cal. but am sick again...send $50...' Late letter (1895): 'I got back from my trip in Trinity county. I found some nice timber land but it is very rough country we went one hundred miles horse back only trails some of the way no trails at all.' Handwriting very legible. Letters very good and better.
