1. ALS: Single sheet folded with letter written on outside page only. Bottom of the page has been cut away. Fold is split and separating. On rear in same hand 'Dec. 6, 1785 / Bp of Gloucester at Bishop(?) and the g.' Letter content: 'Warsop, near Mansfield, 6 Decr. 1785 / Sir, / I intend being in London about (the) middle of next month, and shall bring up with me what I have prepared on (the) Character & Writings of Bp. Butler, in order to be prefaced to (the) new Edition of his Analogy. I wd send up part of (the) copy to you now; but before it goes to (the) Press, I shd like to re-consider (the) Change (of which I have no Copy) & also to consult a few books, which I cannot get at this place. If (the) Change be printed off, I wish you wd in close (the) sheets to me here. And pray let me know, in what forwardness (the) new edition is, & how much, or whether any be yet printed. In (the) title page shd be added after the Latin quotation 'Ejas (Analogiae) haec vis est' etc., as follows. / With a Preface, giving some Account of (the) Character and Writings of (the) Author: By.'
