Walter Wellman (1858-1934) was a journalist, polar explorer and aeronaut. He led two unsuccessful polar expeditiona, 1894 and 1894, but did name a number of bays, inlets, etc. on the second attempt. He built 3 airships in unsuccessful attempts to reach the North Pole by air. Autograph letter signed, on letterhead of American Press Association, Washington Bureau, Walter Wellman, Correspondent, dated Jan. 19, (1898), addressed to Mr Hunt, discussing problems with some printing that Hunt is asked to correct and arguing that he should not have to pay additional money for 'Futures' (? abook). About 100 words. Sheet 8.25 x10.75 inches. Letter previously folded. Stamp 'received Jan 20 1898 C. C. Hunt' in ink on upper right.
