Single sheet letter. The Mobile and Ohio Rail Road was chartered in 1848 by the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee to span the distance between Mobile and the Ohio River in Cairo, Illinois. The first section between Mobile and Citronelle, Alabama opened in 1852. The line merged with the Gulf, Mobile and Northern Railroad in 1940 to form the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad. Single sheet on blue laid paper, 8.25 x 10.75 inches. Autograph letter on Ofice Mobile and Ohio Rail Road Company letterhead, dated March 20, 1856, Letter addressed to C. Dellinger, Esq., New York. Letter details payments of accounts. Signed by A. F. Irwin (?), Secy. About 160 words easily read.
