1856. Trade Paperback. Item #294908

Single sheet, 4.5 x 7.1 inches, written both sides. John Baldwin Buckstone (1802-1879) was an English playwright, actor and stage manager. He began his theater career as a playwright, submitting his first play to a producer by mail but forgetting to include his name or address. He only learned it had been accepted when 'Luke the Labourer' was produced in 1826. He managed the Haymarket Theatre from 1853-1877 and is said to still haunt the building. Autograph letter signed, dated 14 March, 1856. Letter headed T.R. Haymarket (T.R. signifying Theatre Royal, the proud indiaction that the Haymarket was one of three theatres exempted from the onerous licensing laws). Letter addresses his activities, including being the Master of the anniversary Dinner of the General Theatrical Fund, his intention to make an appointment to 'hear your play,' and sending her a Box for the current comedy, and personal best wishes. About 155 words.
